This class introduces Central Control, and explains how to use it to simplify the administration of multiple computers. Topics include an overview of how Central Control operates, how to configure Fortres Grand security products (Fortres 101 and Clean Slate) to connect to a Central Control server, how to create security groups, as well as how to use the Central Control window in Fortres Grand security products. Demonstrations of common tasks are presented including: creating and duplicating groups, executing commands on remote workstations, upgrading Fortres 101 on remote workstations, and registering Fortres Grand products on remote workstations.

User Conference attendees are encouraged to bring laptop computers to participate in hands on training. We will be providing a small 802.11b/g wireless network in order to connect the virtual machines together. If your laptop does not have wireless support, you can still work locally on your computer. In addition, we are providing a downloadable Virtual PC 2007 virtual machine that is preconfigured with Fortres 101 6.5, Clean Slate 6.5, Central Control 6.5, and Time Limit Manager 4.0. Virtual PC is a Microsoft virtualization program that allows multiple operating systems to be run on a single computer.

Virtual PC 2007 is a free download that can be obtained directly from Microsoft using the links below. In addition to the Virtual PC 2007 system requirements, an additional 10 GB of disk space will be required for the preconfigured Virtual PC machine.

Once you have downloaded and installed Virtual PC 2007, use the following instructions to download and setup the preconfigured virtual machine:

1. Download the compressed User Conference virtual machine (3.29 GB) Note: If you have problems downloading the virtual machine, please email conference_support@fortresgrand.com
2. Download the Virtual Machine Information file (pdf).
3. Extract the two included files to the My Virtual Machines folder in My Documents
4. Open Virtual PC from the Start Menu
5. If the New Virtual Machine Wizard doesn't start automatically use the File | New Virtual Machine option in the Virtual PC Console
6. Click Next to start the wizard
7. On the Options page, select Add an existing virtual machine and click Next
8. Use the Browse button to browse to the folder where the virtual machine files were extracted, select UserConference.vmc, then click Next
9. Click Finish to close the wizard

After the virtual machine has been added to Virtual PC, you can select it in the Virtual PC Console and press the Start button to boot the virtual machine. The Virtual Machine Information PDF contains information about usernames and passwords that are configured on the computer.
